Coming to Theatre Deli this November, the festival will explore new perspectives on disability and the relationship between disabled people and the world around them this autumn.

Running from Wednesday 8th November - Saturday 25th November 2023, the festival, which has been curated by artist Caroline Mawer and produced by Theatre Deli, will feature artists and organisations from across the UK.

Over 18 activities including workshops, performances, exhibitions and discussions will take place online and in person across Theatre Deli's Sheffield and London venues as part of The Social Model…& More Festival. Funded by Arts Council England, the festival will also include a series of podcast interviews with disabled artists and academics, released in the weeks leading up to its launch.

“We started by listening to what you wanted from a festival about the Social Model of Disability. Now we’re sharing the World Class Theatre you've produced - in response to what YOU said. Enjoy! Enjoy!“

Caroline Mawer, Curator for The Social Model...& More Festival

The Social Model… & More refers to  ‘The Social Model of Disability’: a way of viewing the world that says that people are disabled by barriers in society, more than their impairment or difference. The term was coined as part of a movement of disability rights protests in the late 20th century that has since influenced changes in attitudes, policies and laws. The Social Model…& More Festival asks if this model is enough to cover the complexities of a range of disabilities, what else can be done and compares it to other models.

“I am massively proud of The Social Model... & More Festival, which highlights amazing disabled artists from across the country. Disabled artists are often excluded from theatre, and we all lose out as a result. The work on show here is diverse, funny, moving and brilliant, and I can't wait for our audiences to experience it.”

Miranda Debenham, Producer for Theatre Deli Sheffield
