SHIFT+SPACE | SORRY? by Sophie Halstead Friday 10th May, 7.30pm - 8pm and Saturday 11th May 7.30pm - 8pm Book Now "Sorry?" is a one woman show reflecting on Sophie’s relationship with her deafness. The show slides between humility and extravagance, offering a generous performance about discovering oneself. Sophie guides the audience through a journey of establishing identity by transitioning through scenes reminiscent of her experience of the world contending with her deafness. She has worked with the ideas of concealing and revealing through the use of lights and costume as an extension of the body, to create a piece of DIY visual art theatre. She approaches this with a charming and honest performance style. The piece uses the space creatively, with moments of close proximity with the audience encouraging them to immerse themselves within Sophie's dance. Her work is playful and personable, often with a haunting edge. She values inclusivity within her practice and strives to create work that can be accessed by many people. This practice has been informed by her lived experience as a deaf person within the arts. It has also been developed through ongoing work with inclusive dance companies such as Sarah Blanc’s Moxie Brawl. Sophie’s movement style is influenced by her professional dance training as well as her yoga practice and experience of nightlife!
