The Social Model...& More Festival started with a discussion about how the social model is “necessary but not sufficient”.

We want to see whether/how it might be possible to make a real practical difference to the lives of disabled people. We started by asking You. Some initial responses to our questions are illustrated online here. The festival’s two weeks of newly commissioned theatre and workshops share the exciting ideas of just a few of the creatives who submitted their theatrical feedback.

I want to pose four fundamental questions here:

1. Do we need/want a ‘model’ covering all disabled people - or something more responsive to our huge diversity?
2. How to recognise communities and families as well as individuals? Practically, including for/by arts organisations?
3. Intersectionality is huge. Is this truly about disability - or inequalities more generally?
4. How to balance all this with broadening access?

Find out more about Caroline Mawer

Caroline Mawer is a multimedia artist and theatre/movement maker, now curating Theatre Deli's Social Model... & More Festival in Sheffield and London.
For Caroline's art, she overlay digital drawing, X-rays and collage on her photography; create installations using recycled packaging; and weave with salvaged fabric. And she is producing performance and video including all of the above. She is also a clean air / climate activist. We all have to breathe the air around us 20,000 times a day. So air quality is everyone’s concern. Even if successive governments still aren't taking effective action.
