Theatre Deli's Sheffield branch will open its Arley Street venue from March 2023.

The venue will open its doors with performances of MAD(E) by Mandala Theatre (21st - 25th March), a passionate and exhilarating commentary on young men’s mental health, with more performances and events due to be announced throughout the spring and summer. Autumn will be the first full season at the new venue and include The Social Model...& More Festival, focused on exploring the successes and limitations of the Social Model of Disability and running across both Theatre Deli’s Sheffield and London venues.

MAD(E) by Mandala Theatre will be the first programmed performance at Theatre Deli, running from 21st- 25 March.

Based in Arley Street Studio Hub, a collection of artists studios run by CADS, Theatre Deli’s space will feature three rehearsal studios including a dance studio with a custom-built dance floor and mirrors, a performance space with a capacity of approximately 100, an open office area for hot desking, and a bar and cafe. The venue has begun to accept some hire enquiries for mid-February onwards.

Situated between the artistic hubs at Harland Works and the bustle of London Road and New Era Square, Theatre Deli will join a list of popular attractions in the area, including Treehouse Boardgame Cafe and Golf Fang.

Theatre Deli Sheffield’s new artistic team Executive Producer Daljinder Singh and Producer Miranda Debenham invite artists and communities to get in touch with performances and events they would like to see programmed in the new space. Theatre Deli is particularly excited about shows with accessible commitments and supporting companies to improve the accessibility of their performance.

The refurbishment of the venue has been funded by a mixed grant and loan provided by the Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund and received via Key Fund. The fund comes from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as part of the legacy of the Great Exhibition in the North.

A national meanwhile-space charity, Theatre Deli’s model involves taking over unused spaces to support artists and offer communities access to the arts. Arley Street will be Theatre Deli’s third Sheffield venue and thirteenth venue nationally, including the charity’s current London base situated next to the Gherkin, which opened in July 2022.

“We are delighted to be opening our new venue to audiences soon. Throughout its existence Deli has been an important partner for artists looking for support, space and the room to innovate and create.

Our journey of discovering and repurposing disused spaces now takes
us to Arley Street. In the coming months we look forward to welcoming artists, companies, and community changemakers through our doors and into our spaces.

Theatre Deli Sheffield
is an integral part of our region's cultural landscape and we are excited to converse and collaborate with our brilliant creative community. We look forward to seeing you soon.“

Daljinder Singh, Executive Producer for Theatre Deli
