Theatre Deli presents nine brand new work-in-progress performances this autumn as part of their SHIFT+SPACE programme.

The programme begins with Chatterbox, an audio immersive performance all about love by Pavlos Christodoulou (6th/7th October) followed by Bacchanal by SPIT theatre, an epic hip-hopera of a night out with the: gods, heroes and wrong’ens of Greek mythology (13th/14th October) RELISH by Deborah Shorindé  (27th/28th October) is a performance installation about how we anticipate and later resent the exact same moment.

Three people in boiler suits sprawled out on the floor, they are drawing on pieces of large paper and covered in paint

In November, Galentines Day (3rd/4th November) by acclaimed writer Christine Ubochi is ‘a less intense John Tucker Must Die’ set in a hair salon in Deptford South London. Uproar by Moyra Silva & Carolina Rieckhof (10th/11th November) is an interdisciplinary project which intertwines costume, participative performance and dance in connection with the latest uprisings in Peru. The Art Of Drowning by Pending Theatre (17th/18th November) asks "What is an artist without their inspiration? Can there even be life without art?"

Sin by Trisa Triandesa (1st/2nd December) offers insight into the LGBTQ community in Indonesia, among the younger generations. Telling Stories and Making Salad by Venetia Taylor (8th/9th December)  is exactly what it sounds like! Stand-up meets theatre meets salad. We round off this season of SHIFT+SPACE with Procreate (15th/16th December) the debut and final one woman show from Bethan Screen… a surreal, and silly show about contemplating motherhood.

Described by previous artists in the programme as

One of the most supportive experiences I've had as an artist! Making experimental, immersive theatre can be a difficult and non-linear experience at the best of times, but SHIFT+SPACE went above and beyond to accommodate and nurture our ideas. The structure of the programme really helps to champion the development of the unconventional - giving us the time and space to figure out the function and form of our interdisciplinary practice. This kind of opportunity is gold-dust for radical art & theatre creators.

Mushmoss Collective, SHIFT+SPACE Spring Artist 2023

Supporting over 35 companies since opening in Autumn 2021, SHIFT+SPACE has granted some artists their first ever performance opportunity and set many on journeys to UK tours, slots at VAULT Festival and even award nominations. The programme includes free access to a package of resources including five days of space, technical expertise and marketing support to help them move their work-in-progress to the next stage. Artists in the scheme keep 100% of the Box Office and are offered a £250 advance to artists.

A national meanwhile-space charity, Theatre Deli’s model involves taking over unused spaces to support artists and offer communities access to the arts. The organisation opened its most recent London venue on Leadenhall Street and around the corner from the Gherkin in July 2022. Theatre Deli's latest Sheffield venue opened it’s doors in spring 2023.

Esther Hallas Smith, Producer of Theatre Deli said:

We’re really excited for this next season of SHIFT+SPACE to round off the year. We can’t wait to share the innovative and unique projects with our audiences over the next few months”

SHIFT+SPACE opens in October 2023 and will run across most weekends to December 2023 at Theatre Deli, 107 Leadenhall Street, City of London, EC3A 4AF
