Naran Ja is about an orange. Maybe the last orange. It is also about a child. It is also about myriad other objects and bodies on a stage. Some animated, some not - but all alive nonetheless.

Combining mime, object theatre and clown, Naran Ja is a dream-like fable about a child skipping bedtime to follow an orange into an absurd, sometimes ridiculous world of objects.

Naran Ja is an attempt to address the unspeakable; using light and darkness, sound, objects and movement to face the paralysing, almost inconceivable thought of finding yourself in an age of mass extinction. It is a search for comfort, perhaps even hope, in the strangeness of things that we can’t quite fully comprehend.

Inspired by a range of influences from Soviet stop-motion animation to well-known children’s literature, Naran Ja is an invitation to surrender to the absurd.
This performance is a work-in-progress.
