SHIFT + SPACE | The Ickworth Project by We Talk of Horses Friday 20th September 7.30 - 8.30pm and Saturday 21st September 7.30pm - 8.30pm Book Now John Hervey was the 6th Marquess of Bristol, and he died in 1999. He was a lifelong coke addict, helicopter pilot, openly gay, a lover of fast cars and pretty young men. He was almost certainly a monster, a relic of a bygone age- callous, immature, representative of everything wrong with the British feudal system. But was he also the sad product of a neglectful upbringing? Is he a symbol of the desperate consumerism of the late 90s, just before history ended? Is he some kind of queer icon? The Ickworth Project is a high-speed, horrifying dive into the story of a profoundly strange man, and why we are still drawn to huge characters who don’t align with our ethics. Taking in documentary theatre, folk horror and restoration comedy, The Ickworth Project explores what happens when two theatremakers have too much story to tell. Find out more about We Talk of Horses We Talk Of Horses is the collaboration between writer/makers Sam Rees and Pip Williams, started in 2018 at UEA. We make theatre that is visceral, urgent and unashamedly emotional; we believe that by recognizing the importance of the individual’s emotional experience, wider truths about our culture can be revealed. We believe in the importance of introspection and catharsis as a means to effect positive change. Working in the intersections between live performance practices, we use text, sound and video to create unique audience experiences.
