For Black History Month, Theatre Deli London has offered its space to promote the work of Black digital artists, which will be on display in our venue throughout October. Films/digital work can be added to the lineup throughout October - details are below.

We are also happy to be running the following two films throughout the month (looped during Deli Broadgate opening hours):

Moira Stuart: In Search of Wilberforce

A documentary exploring Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade and the contribution made by William Wilberforce to the Abolition movement. This 2007 programme coincided with the 200th anniversary of the British bill to ban the slave trade. Moira Stuart - the first African-Caribbean female newsreader to appear nationally on British television and radio - takes us on a journey across continents seeking answers to difficult questions. Our Co-Chair of Trustees, Pam Fraser Solomon, developed the programme for BBC2 from her original research and she was an executive producer of the documentary.

Still a Slave

An artistic response to many of the comments posted on social media that undermine the Black Lives Matter Movement highlights the ways in which Black people in the UK still feel like they are slaves within modern society. What makes this film unique is its use of the art form of bboying and combines it with a flaming rope dart to illustrate the many ways in which people of color are still bound within society and treated as slaves both physically and metaphorically. The film has been audio described using The Rationale Method which utilizes emotive poetry and sound effects. What is unique about this method of audio description is that it is designed specifically to enhance accessibility to both visually impaired and sighted audiences to give them a highly enjoyable shared experience. Still a Slave stars and is directed by Theatre Deli Co-Artistic Director Nathan Geering.
