Motherhood is alarming. Do you know what you are doing? I don’t know what I am doing, is that ok to say that I don’t know what I am doing? Does anyone ever really SAY that they DO know what they are doing? I found it hard to say, out loud, that I didn’t know what I was doing, but when the words did come flying out of my mouth in an unstoppable stream of desperation they were sometimes met with a look of innocent bewilderment accompanied by a slight whiff of ‘hmmmm’ erring on the side of judgemental (or so I thought). If only I’d have had the time (before the crying would start - the baby's, not mine, although….hand in hand) to delve further into those eyes, the eyes of a fellow baby owner,  I feel like I would’ve been able to see the truth. I just wanted to unlock the clues of the world’s most secret club. In my quest to peel back the veneer of glazed happiness of the ‘new mum’, I found myself hoping that one day everyone would just say ‘I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU ARE ALL DOING THIS! HOW DO I DO THIS?’, more often. Then we could all not know what we were doing, together. MOTHERHOOD.

Express Yourself - A 'mam'oir will exhibit this summer in the Deli Bar. When Jo's baby refused to breastfeed, she documented the task of Exclusively Expressing as a way to make the horror seem bearable. Here is a brutally honest and comedic account of what happens to women attempting to maintain whoever they once were with the perfect mum you're 'meant to be'. Jo manages to debunk the myth of the magic of motherhood. A painful process that led to the amazing discovery that there are no rules, we are all warriors.
