So what exactly is a 'Scratch Night'?

  • A Scratch Night is an exciting chance to see snippets of brand new work, ranging from immersive theatre to comedy and new writing, before they become full length shows.
  • Scratch Nights rely on two way communication with the audience, and you'll have the unique opportunity to offer your thoughts and feedback at the end of the evening, either in writing or by having an informal chat with the artists at the bar!

Join us at our cosy new home in Burgess Park for a night of new theatre with a focus on immersive, experiential and non-traditional performances.

The first Deli Scratch Artists for 2019 are:

Infinite Content, by Luke Rollason:  Infinite Content is a clown comedy show about attention spans and the internet. It's a one man slapstick Black Mirror, that imitates the experience of our brains when we go online. Luke Rollason, a clown and theatremaker, will explore what happens to the live comedy experience when highjacked by instant gratification and infinite distraction.

Luke is a graduate of L'Ecole Philippe Gaulier who creates imaginative and irreverent work that exists in a spontaneous relationship with its audience. Previous work includes Planet Earth III (SOHO Theatre), which was part of Theatre Deli's Scratch Show in 2018.

Decision Makers, by Laura AthertonDecision Makers is a piece exploring social issues through the medium of a dystopian future. Inspired by the recent UN report on austerity Britain, Actor and Theatre Maker Laura Atherton, will be using a blend of physical theatre and Commedia dell’Arte to explore societal misogyny, universal credit and the hunger for economic growth.

Laura trained at Bretton Hall and is a core acting member of the theatre company Imitating The Dog.

Untitled, by Leto Dietrich: The phenomenon that is online dating is fascinating and is both mocked and nourished by society. Taking a glance at how we are using it and why so many of us are, actor and theatre maker Leto Dietrich, will examine the effects of having dozens of single people at our fingertips is having on all our relationships.

Leto has a BA drama and performance degree from London South Bank University, and since graduation he's been creating immersive and interactive theatre pieces.

My Father The Tantric Masseur, by Roann McCloskeyEveryone remembers the first time they came, but how often do we talk about it? Roann has decided it’s finally time to air those stories you’re told you never should. My Father The Tantric Masseur shines light on the vulnerability and taboos of sex, and the transformative power these stories contain.

Roann is an Actor, Director and Writer specialising in immersive, improvised and musical theatre. Her comedy, storytelling and performance quality is rooted in bringing to life the everyday, surfacing the hilarity of the banal, and draws heavily on her personal experience and her close familial relationships.

I am Gavrilo Princip, by Ollie Yellop:  A solo show with live musical accompaniment about the young assassin who shot and killed the Archduke Franz, initiating a chain of events that would lead to the outbreak of World War I.

Ollie is an actor and theatre maker from Essex. A graduate of the National Youth Theatre and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Ollie is passionate about history, drama and music and strives to create work that reflects these interests.

After the performances, join us at the Old Library Bar and carry on the conversation with the artists, in a friendly space for creative minds to meet.
