Doomscrolling by Suchandrika Chakrabarti Friday 6th September, 7.30pm - 9pm Book Now Doomscrolling is the act of spending an excessive amount of time reading large quantities of negative news online. It can be linked to a decline in mental and physical health. Former journalist, professional doomscroller and beloved aunt, Suchandrika Chakrabarti (Radio 4 comedy writer, Funny Women 'One To Watch' 2020, British Comedy Guide Pro Performance finalist 2021), tries to explain our chronically-online times to her niece (5). She takes a deep dive into what doomscrolling is actually doing to us, if she's really in recovery from working inside the news machine and what the future might look like, apart from everything being underwater... At the heart of this narrative is Suchandrika's relationship with her small niece. What useful advice can a Millennial aunt living through our chronically-online times hand down? Or will doomscrolling be a relic of the past when the next generation is grown up?
